On July 30, 2017 in Oakville, Ontario, Jhonattan Vegas, for the second time in a row, won the 2017 RBC Canadian Open after a sudden death play-off against Charley Hoffman who led the tournament after the third round. At the end of round four, Vegas and Hoffman were tied at 21 under par. The 2017 RBC Canadian Open took place at the Glen Abbey Golf Course, which was the first course designed by Jack Nicklaus.

Jhonattan Vegas won the RBC Canadian Open in 2016, and is only the second golfer to win the Canadian Open back to back. He pulled the win out of the hat after entering the final round at 14 under par and tied for 5th. He was able to birdie several holes which allowed him to end the 4th round at 21 under par.

Vegas first played the RBC Canadian Open in 2012 where he ranked T28, in 2014 he didn't get past round 2, and in 2015 he ranked T48. His total winnings at the open was $1.1 million and with this win it will jump over $2 million.

Jhonattan Vegas was born on August 19 1984 in Maturín, Venezuela. He played college golf at the University of Texas where he graduated with a degree in kinesiology. Vegas turned professional in 2008 and started playing the Nationwide Tour in 2009. In 2011, Vegas won his first PGA Tour event, the Bob Hope Classic. After winning the 2017 RBC Canadian Open, he has now won 3 PGA tournaments.
