A fire broke out this Friday morning, on Dec. 30, in an apartment on the 16th floor of a high-rise building at 205 Queen Mary Drive.
Oakville Fire crews arrived at around 9 a.m. with nine fire trucks on scene.
According to one of the residents, about 15-20 people, who lived directly above or under the 16th floor, were successfully evacuated while firefighters dealt with the blaze.
At around 9:30 a.m., the remaining tenants in the building were urged over the intercom to shelter in their apartments until the fire was extinguished.
The evacuated residents, and a few pets, took shelter in an Oakville Transit bus before the fire was extinguished. By noon, those who lived on or under the 14th floor were allowed back into their apartments.
An investigation is still ongoing.
