On September 5th, Ann Mulvale stepped into the Town Clerk’s office and submitted her paperwork for what a large number of people thought would her decision to run for Mayor. To everyone’s surprise she has decided to run for the position of Town & Regional Councillor for Ward 5.
The reason for her decision was two fold as she explained. A large number of constituents requested that she should run once more, and from a personal perspective she felt that the office of Mayor wouldn’t allow her the time she would like to spend with her granddaughter.
Ann Mulvale was first elected in 1988 as Oakville’s Mayor for a total of 5 consecutive terms until she lost against Rob Burton in 2006. In 2010 she ran again for the position of Mayor and lost by 4800 plus votes.
During her hiatus from political life she has been busy on several different fronts, from becoming a partner in a downtown Oakville spa to chairing and volunteering on countless boards and committees. One local accomplishment she is particularly proud of is when she helped to co-ordinate Wellspring which provides cancer support services.
When asked what she can do for the community Ann stated, “I do my due diligence which provides a comprehensive understanding of the challenges, and then I connect the dots to get things done.”
The issues she feels is facing Ward 5 is the noise from Pearson’s flight path, congestion due to poor planning such as the digging up of a road way in front of a school during the first week back from summer break. She also suggested that some of the congestion could arise from residents from Milton travelling to the Oakville GO Station, which might be solved by increasing the number of GO Trains servicing Milton.
