Heritage Blues Orchestra
The grit of low-down country and urban blues with the bold brass of New Orleans; the hand-clapping fervor of gospel punctuated with fiery postmodern, jazz-infused horn arrangements; the haunting cries of work songs and pulsating drums that reach back to the real roots of it all. You’ll journey across the Middle Passage, be driven down Highway 49 from Clarksdale to New Orleans, go from chain gangs and juke joints to orchestra pits, church pews and even back porches. HBO’s music is an inspiring testament to the enduring power, possibilities and boundless beauty of African-American music.
Johannes Linstead
Johannes Linstead, a master of the Latin-guitar, calls his latest album Tales of a Gypsy for several reasons. “I travel around the world sharing my music, and each of my compositions is like another tale to be told. I feel like I am following in the footsteps of the original gypsies who traveled wherever they wanted and spread ideas, culture and art as they went. I also think of planet earth as one world and all of the inhabitants as one people, and that concept of ‘no borders’ represents the kind of true personal freedom that gypsies always appreciated.

Red Hot Ramble
Red Hot Ramble reflects the New Orleans music that inspires the ensemble, each performer adds their own flavour to the musical gumbo they create together. Roberta Hunt’s sultry, saucy vocals and romping piano stir the pot, Alison Young’s energetic saxophones engulf you in a jazz hurricane, while Glenn Anderson lays down the essence of a NOLA parade beat with his infectious drums, and Jack Zorawski’s “mean-streets” bass grooves can’t help but conjure a stroll in the French Quarter. When the stage affords, Andrej Saradin, trumpet and Jamie Stager, trombone, add their own musical spice to the quartet.
