North Oakville's Sixteen Mile Leash-Free Dog Park will close starting today, Monday, April 1, 2024, as pre-construction work begins for the expansion of Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
The town says the area is undergoing preparations for the installation of volleyball, tennis, and pickleball courts.
The dog park is set to reopen in its new location at the north end of the Sixteen Mile community park "by summer 2024", though exact dates have not yet been specified.
In the meantime, residents are being encouraged by town staff to explore nearby alternatives for their dogs, including:
- Memorial Park, at 120 Oak Park Boulevard
- Palermo Park, at 2345 Dundas Street West
- Glenashton Park, at 1051 Glenashton Drive
Additional leash-free park options can be found on Oakville's Dog Parks page.
More information about the expansion project can be found on the town's Sixteen Mile Sports Complex page.
