Popular Oakville bar closes down after over 17 years

The Stout Monk in Oakville has closed its doors for good after a notice on the door says the tenants missed their rent payments.

The Stout Monk in Oakville has closed its doors for good after a notice on the door says the tenants missed their rent payments.

In a lease termination notice posted on the restaurant's door located at 478 Dundas Street West, it said, "Be advised that Riotrin Properties (Oakville) Inc. hereby terminates the tenancy of the premises located at 478 Dundas Street West, Oakville, Ontario effective April 3, 2024 for failure to comply with the requirements to pay rent under your lease agreement dated the 1st day of March, 2006."

Oakville News contacted the previous owner of the restaurant, Rino Vetrone, who bought the Stout Monk in 2019 and operated it as a family business for several years.

Vetrone says he sold the business after three and a half years and is unsure what happened after it was passed on. He only found out the bar was closed through text messages from people in the community who found the lease termination notice.

The Stout Monk's profile on Google has not been updated since the closure and still says the restaurant is open.

Vetrone is currently waiting on details from the owners to find out what happened.

The Stout Monk had a rating 4.3 out of 5 on Google reviews. They were well known for their Nachos, drinks, and atmosphere.

"Amazing Food and service the atmosphere is really accommodating and not to mention the staff and management are so friendly," one customer wrote.

"This weekend I had come up from Brooklyn, NY to see some family in Toronto, and we stumbled upon this gem. The food was great and delicious, but those drinks…10/10," said another reviewer.

The main question now for residents is finding out what led to the closure and what will take the place of this iconic spot in Oakville.

More to come on this developing story.
