A mock Emergency Preparedness Exercise will take place tomorrow, April 25, 2024, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).

OTMH will see an increase in foot traffic and activity tomorrow as the hospital undergoes a mock Emergency Preparedness Exercise to practice for a Code Orange.

The hospital says patient care and wait times will not be impacted.

Over the course of tomorrow, Thursday, April 25, 2024, Halton Healthcare (in partnership with the Regional Municipality of Halton, Oakville Fire Department, Halton Regional Police Service, Halton Region Paramedic Services and the Town of Oakville) says they will "be participating in a mock Emergency Preparedness Exercise to practice an emergency response to a Code Orange."

The hospital would call a Code Orange in the event of a disaster that may increase the number of patients received in the Emergency Department.

"Exercises like this enable our hospital staff and physicians to practice, review and improve our Code Orange (disaster) plan, so that we are always ready to care for our community," said staff for Halton Healthcare in a news release.

Throughout the morning, patients and visitors may notice increased activity at the hospital.

Sources did not say or estimate how long the exercise would go on for but did say it will begin at 9:30 a.m.

All activity and clinics will operate as normal and the Emergency Department will be open during this exercise.
