Recreation and Culture offers March Break programs to suit any taste: arts, adventure, athletics and more! Extended care hours available. March Break registration for residents opens January 1, and January 14, 2014 for non-residents!

Choose a week-long camp or mix it up with a day-by-day program. Click on a link below for more information and to register online:

Beetle Bugs, Bonanza, and Break Out camps

The extremely popular Beetle Bugs (ages 4-5), Bonanza (ages 6-9), and Break Out (ages 10-13) camps will be back at Glen Abbey Community Centre. Before and After Care is also available at this location for an additional fee (separate registration is required). Pick and choose your days or register for all five!

Hockey camps

Hornets Girls' Hockey and Goalie camps

Joshua's Creek Arenas is offering the Hornets Girls' Hockey Camp Junior (ages 7-9) and Senior (ages 10-12) and Hornets Girls' Goalie Camp Junior(ages 7-9) and Senior (ages 10-12) for the experienced hockey player. Spend the week developing your on-ice skills and conditioning with off-ice activities. Full hockey equipment is required and participants must have previous organized hockey experience. A nutritious hot lunch will be provided every day.

March Break Hockey Camp

The March Break Hockey Camp at River Oaks Community Centre is ideal for the new player or novice hockey star. Learn new skills and improve on others. Get a full week of on- and off-ice instruction combined with other sports for a well-rounded training experience! Three age groups are offered: Tyke(ages 5-7), Junior (ages 8-10) and Senior (ages 11-13). Full hockey equipment is required. Drop off as early as 7 a.m. and pick up as late as 6 p.m. for one low fee!

March Break at the Museum

Sign up for one day, or the whole week! Participants (ages 6-10) will feel like experienced globe-trotters by the time they go back to school. Before and after care is available for an additional fee. Use the links provided to access details and to register online. Don't forget to add our African Adventure, offered on the March 7 P.A. Day, too!

Explore a different culture each day! Immerse yourself in all things Scottish. Discover exotic India. Find inspiration in the fine art collection at Erchless Estate and paint your own masterpiece like an artiste in Paris, France. Connect with Oakville's Japanese sister city, Neyagawa, learning about origami and joining in a traditional tea ceremony. Then explore our home and native land with an imaginary cross-country trip of Canada!

The Museum Scene: March 17-21

Offered for students who have two weeks off, the Museum Scene (ages 7-11) is a week-long drama camp where participants will learn acting techniques, games and perform in a play. The whole museum is your stage! Before and after care is also available for an additional fee.

Specialty programs and workshops

Babysitter Training

Looking to get into the babysitting business? Learn the fundamentals with the Babysitter Training course (ages 11-14) at QEPCCC. SOS-Safety on Site will provide you with the first-hand knowledge needed to care for infants and children, including safety in the home. Offered on Monday, March 10 or Friday, March 14.

Claymation Workshop

With the help of Lights, Camera, Action, Educate! you'll use stop motion technology, cutting edge video cameras and laptop computers to bring your own blockbuster movie to life! A DVD of all the Claymation Workshop creations is included. This one-day program at River Oaks Community Centre is offered for ages 9-12. Please note that before and after care is not provided for this workshop.

Home Alone

Empower your child with the confidence and skills to care for themselves when home alone. Taught by the staff of SOS-Safety on Site, this course includes the Red Cross People Savers Level 4 program, internet safety, and practical instruction on how to handle real-life situations. Home Alone (ages 9-12) is offered at QEPCCC from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 10 or Friday, March 14. Please note that before and after care is not available for this program.

I Have to See That! Workshop

Create your own movie trailer with the assistance of Lights, Camera, Action, Educate! Participants (ages 9-12) will use tripods, cameras and Macbooks at QEPCCC in this one-day workshop. Learn the tricks and techniques used to make an audience say I Have to See That!

Jewellery Workshop

Participants (ages 10-15) will learn different techniques, such as floating beads and wire designs, from a professional jewellery artist. All materials included. Please note that before and after care is not available for the Jewellery Workshop program. Two times are offered: 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 and 10 a.m.-noon on Friday, March 14.

Toymation Workshop

Make your favourite toy the star of the show using stop motion animation! The specialists from Lights, Camera, Action, Educate! will help you convince your parents that toys come alive by adding voices, sound effects, and music to your next Hollywood hit. All participants (ages 6-8) will receive a Toymation Workshop DVD of all the movies at the end of the day. Offered at River Oaks Community Centre, please note that before and after care is not provided for this program.

Muses and Masters

Get creative, get active at the Q! Select an age group for more information and to register online: Muses (ages 4-7) and Masters (ages 8-12). Register for one day or all five! Every day is a new adventure in art:

Digital Discoveries H2O

Make a splash in the morning with a waterproof camera in QEPCCC's pool, then spend the afternoon in the Digital Lab exploring ways to turn your photos into fantastic masterpieces. All materials are provided for this one-day program. Participants (ages 10-12) must be able to swim 25 metres. Digital Discoveries H2O is perfect for budding photographers with an eye for action-packed fun!

Youth programs for March Break

Active Thursday

Start your day at Bronte Youth Centre and join us for a day trip to one of Oakville's community centres to explore the wide range of activities offered. Expect swimming, gym time and outdoor play. Active Thursday is perfect for youth (ages 13-19) who like to keep moving!

Artistic Expressions

The youth centre experience with an artistic touch. Challenge your creativity with a variety of arts and crafts at your fingertips. Artistic Expressions (ages 13-19) is offered at Bronte Youth Centre from 9 a.m.—2 p.m. on Monday, March 10.

Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid with CPR"B"

Centennial Pool is offering a combined class for Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid during the March Break. Participants must be 13 years old by exam date or hold Bronze Star. Anything less than 100% attendance may affect completion of the course. Additional materials needed include the Canadian Lifesaving Manual. Materials are to be purchased at the pool on the first day of lessons.

Clifton Hill Adventure

Wrap up March Break in style with a full day of excitement in Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls! Take in attractions on the Great Canadian Midway (may include a ride on the Niagara Sky Wheel, Nightmares Fear Factory, Movieland Wax Museum, and more!). Lunch is included for participants (ages 13-19). We'll start off at Bronte Youth Centre and then hit the road for a Clifton Hill Adventure.

Drawing and Painting workshop

Spend the morning at QEPCCC on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (9 a.m.—noon) developing your technique under the direction of a local artist. Exercises will include creative exploration and technical skill development. Participants (ages 13-16) in the Drawing and Painting workshop will experiment with various media, including watercolour and acrylics.

Game Zone

The youth centre experience with a gaming twist. Check out our selection of video games, board games and table sports at Bronte Youth Centre for a chance to win great prizes. Game Zone is a day full of fun for ages 13-19!

Tye Dye Workshop

Participants (ages 11-15) in this two-hour workshop will explore different tie dye techniques with an experienced instructor at QEPCCC. Everyone will customize a t-shirt (included) to take home with them! The Tye Dye Workshop is perfect for anyone interested in crafty couture!

Youth Bound

A special value for ages 13-19! With Youth Bound you get all five days of adventure at Bronte Youth Centre for just $90! That's right, your week will include art, games, movies, and two field trips: Active Thursday and the Clifton Hill Adventure all for one low price!

Youth Centre Cinema

Come chill out with a new release and some tasty movie treats at Bronte Youth Centre on March 12. Youth Centre Cinema (ages 13-19) is a great way to relax and spend time with friends during the break!

Youth Spa Workshop

Learn the basics, including how to do manicures and pedicures, from a registered esthetician! The Youth Spa Workshop (ages 11-15) is a three-day program offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 11, 12 and 13 at QEPCCC. You'll get nail and skin care tips, plus celebrate on the last day with games, a pizza lunch, and a loot bag of fun spa supplies! Please bring $10 for materials, payable to the instructor, on the first day. Before and after care is not provided for this program.
