Halton Region has issued a notice of construction update regarding the yearlong watermain repairs taking place in Oakville's Ward 1.
The main change to the work plan is that despite fewer crews working on the watermains at once, Halton is not expecting to be delayed beyond the original deadline of "end of summer 2024."
Work began on watermains and wastewater main systems on five streets in southwest Oakville back in June 2023. Halton says that while the original plan was to work on all five sites "would work in parallel" with multiple construction crews, the work plan has changed and will now be done by a singular crew.
The region says "this work will maintain the existing infrastructure in a state of good repair and ensure the continued delivery of reliable water and wastewater services."
A list of the affected streets is shown below and the limits of the work are shown in map attachments at the bottom of this story.
Halton originally issued a Notice of Construction on June 21, 2023. At the time the Notice of Construction was issued, the Region "anticipated that multiple crews would work in parallel on Marine Drive, Stanfield Drive, Southland Crescent, West Street and Victoria Street."
However, due to "unforeseen challenges encountered during construction," they have changed their approach such that the "construction works are now being completed sequentially, focusing on one street at a time before moving to the next."
The region says "works are still anticipated to be complete by the end of summer 2024."
The anticipated construction start dates for each street are revised as follows:
Watermain Improvements:
- Marine Drive – began June 2023
- Stanfield Drive & Southland Crescent – March/April 2024
Watermain and Wastewater Main Improvements:
- West Street & Victoria Street – May/June 2024
