Whittington Design Show - Fashion & Furniture
As an interior designer/decorator with an Oakville based business, I get the opportunity to attend some really interesting home furnishing events put on by local manufacturing and retail businesses in Oakville, Mississauga and Burlington.
Last Thursday, I went to the Whittington Furniture event at their showroom in Mississauga. The event, billed as “Fashion to Furnishings” certainly piqued my curiosity. I wasn’t expecting to be wowed - in the past I’ve been to a few events similarly billed, but came away confused and disappointed as the connection was such a stretch. In the case of this event, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. This Canadian furniture company featured some unusually designed fashion outfits among their stylish beautifully handcrafted designer furniture. While scanning the showroom, what caught one’s eye were the clothes made of beautiful fabrics. I was very impressed; they were all made out of home furnishing fabrics – cool! This gave me food for thought.
To cap off the event, a fashion show featuring gowns made from home furnishing fabrics from Kravet, Joanne Fabrics, Robert Allan, Maxwell and Threadbare combined with three show-art chairs showcased the creativity, craftsmanship and design capabilities of this company. Whittington’s definitely showed me, and wowed me. They are able to blend old world craftsmanship and avant-garde design coming up with unique and exquisite home furnishings. I know where I am going to take some of my clients to show them what beautiful Canadian made furniture looks like.
