Beginning this week, overnight parking is now available at most municipal lots in downtown Oakville. This is the first time in recent memory paid parking will be allowed downtown between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

It is still free to park at downtown core municipal parking lots between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. - but if a resident or visitor needs to park their vehicle anytime between overnight hours (2-6 a.m.) they must purchase a one-night pass through HonkMobile on their phone or a 30-night pass through the town's online services.

To start, parking machines in downtown Oakville municipal lots "cannot accept payment for parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m." Payment will only accepted through the HonkMobile app (one night) or online services (for a 30-night permit) "at this time."

The town also says they are "continuing to streamline its online parking services and is now offering courtesy temporary parking permits in addition to on-street parking permits that are currently offered through online services. If you don’t have a town account already, sign up and select the Parking and Enforcement page."

Paid overnight parking is available in the downtown core at municipal lots 1, 2, 3, 5, 6A, 7, 8, 15 and 16. The parking lots along Water Street are not included.

(A full map of parking in downtown Oakville is on the Municipal Parking Lots and Garages website here.)

Mayor Rob Burton says that "the town is providing more options for residents and their parking needs while also streamlining parking services online," meaning is will be "even easier and more convenient to apply for parking permits."

Registered users will be able to apply or review any parking-related permits for their vehicle(s) at their convenience and at any time. More information is available on the town's Parking webpage.
